Unlike the days of old, when wood shutters were for protection, today Exterior Wood Shutters are designed to add colour, panache and style to your home.
Like any other products on the market, there are "off the shelf products" from Home Depot or maybe you can get the wood lovers doors and paint them yourself and pass them off as shutters. These are all inexpensive possibilities that look exactly what they are... Inexpensive &Cheap! Like anything else in life, quality costs more, but then you get more.
The two main styles of shutters are the Raised or Flat Panel and the Fixed Louver. There are also Bahamas style, Board & Batten, combination of louvers & raised panels etc.
Unlike louvered door shutters that you buy at a Box Store, we use a heavy style and rails along with 2 ½" or 3 ½" louvers, which shows the quality of our product. Shutters are assembled using rabbit & tannin method for snug fit and dowel pins at each corner to ensure no movement of the frame. Raised Panels are 15 degree Face Cut and float in the frame allowing expansion & contraction.
Our Exterior Shutters are made of clear Pine, just like quality windows on a house. Proper priming and painting will ensure that they stay attractive and do not deteriorate.
Alliance Shutters uses finger joined wood in order to eliminate knots and reduce twisting and warping of the frames which could occur with one-piece frame. Edge Glued Panels are ¾" thick finger joined solid Pine.
All framing is 1 3/16" thick. Vertical styles are 2 3/8" wide and top and bottom rails are either 3.625" or 4.625" wide. Louvers are either California style -2 ½" or Plantation style -3 ½", not the narrow 1 3/8" commonly used.
Raise Panel Shutters are available in standard widths (12", 14", 16" & 18") or can be custom made. All Shutters can be supplied unfinished, for the do-it-yourselfer, or can be primed and painted to a variety of colours, at an extra charge, ready to install.
Standard hardware is supplied for fixed mounting.
